Project Details
Cleanness of molten steel (T01)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2016 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
In terms of their contribution and their functionality for removing non-metallic inclusions from the melt are researched novel replaceable filter systems in continuous casting of aluminum-killed steel (white strip grades). These carbon-bonded filter elements based on a) of foam ceramics with macro channels and b) Spaghetti structures with active and reactive functionalized coatings will be used. The filter components are characterizing by means of computed tomography before and after steel melt filtration. By using the tool of numerical simulations, the interactions between the filter structures, melt flow and inclusion particles are investigated in relation to the inclusion deposition on the filter surfaces. Application Partner is the company ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG.
