With regard to the children´s right to receive exercise support, some clinics in Germany already established exercise offers to enhance physical activities during treatment for pediatric cancer. In 2012, the network ActiveOncoKids was formed by sports scientists, physiotherapists, medical doctors and psychosocial personnel to expand exercise offers nationwide and exchange practical experience. The next essential step is to focus on scientific research and evaluate the effects of exercise on clinically relevant parameters (osteoporosis, muscle maintenance, fatigue, quality of life etc.). However, mono-centric studies do not enable large collectives and therewith no high methodological quality due to low incidence rates of pediatric cancer. Therefore, the applied scientific network should provide qualified junior scientists a platform for joint research applications. The primary aim of the scientific network is to draft and submit scientific research applications via harmonization of assessment and training methods.
