Project Details
Removal of iron from secondary aluminum alloys by metal melt filtration (A07)
Subject Area
Thermodynamics and Kinetics as well as Properties of Phases and Microstructure of Materials
Term
from 2016 to 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 169148856
The usability of functional filter materials, produced within the SFB920, for removal of primary solidified, Fe-containing intermetallic in order to reduce the Fe-content in secondary Al-melts is investigated within the subproject A07. Therefore, the Al-Si-Mg alloy A356 used within the CRC 920 with typical Fe-contents will be conditioned under the influence of Mn and Cr close above the liquidus-temperature of the (Al)-solid solution. The interaction of the secondary Al-alloys with the functional filter materials will be particularly studied regarding nucleation of Fe-containing intermetallic and the potential formation of in-situ layers to bind Fe.
