The central objective of this project is to control the intermetallic compound (B2 type and L12 type) formation in Al-alloyed high strength high ductility steels with tailored properties. In this project, a thorough understanding on the intermetallic precipitation mechanisms should be achieved. The microstructure evolution and the elemental partitioning during the intermetallics formation in the steels with multiphase matrix are aimed to be intensively investigated by means of Calphad method and the experimental validations. Based on the knowledge of the intermetallics formation mechanisms, an effective scenario of controlling and utilization of the intermetallics as second phases in multiphase steels should be provided.
