The purpose of the project is to bring together two strong strands of research bent on analyzing mental processes: the modeling of response-time distributions and multinomial-processing tree (MPT) models. The idea is to extend MPT models in a fully general way to jointly account for responses and response times allowing one to disentangle the completion-time distributions of the processes considered in the MPT model. If successful, the project will allow one to gain deeper insight into the processing architecture of the many tasks and paradigms modeled by MPT models, it will provide a principled competitor to the now dominant paradigm of simple diffusionmodel analyses, it will allow one to test theoretical predictions about process-completion times of different processes implied by many current psychological theories, and it will support the development of more complete and hopefully more reliable and valid measurement models for processes of central psychological interest
