Subject Area Roman Catholic Theology
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 315420027

The Speculum universale of Radulfus Ardens (died about 1200) is the most comprehensive and complete systematic presentation of theological ethics in the 12th century. It is in its time an original and important contribution to moral theology and one of the first systematic outlines of theological ethics; it had a sig-nificant impact on the development of this subject. His author was influenced by the progressive “School of Gilbert Porreta” which was open to secular science. The objective of the project is to edit this not yet in printed form published work in a critical edition. After the books I-V, and now the books VII-X too, have already been edited by the applicant (together with Claudia Heimann), the books XI-XIV of the Speculum universale should now be edited. In the now re-quested funding period from January 2022 to December 2024, the edition of books XI-XIV and so of the entire Speculum universale will be completed.
