The collection of manuscripts from the former Benedictine monastery of St. Emmeram in Regensburg constitutes one of the major holdings of the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek München (BSB; Bavarian State Library in Munich) due to its importance for cultural history, its age as well as size. The origins of the monastery library and scriptorium date back to the ninth century; after the dissolution of the monastery in the course of the secularisation, c. 1000 manuscripts were transferred to the Wittelsbach court library at Munich in 1811/2. Among the Codices latini monacenses of the present-day Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, 925 manuscripts from St. Emmeram are preserved under the shelfmarks 14000-15028, of which c. 890, i.e. 96 percent, originated in the Middle Ages. Up to now, the collection is only listed in its entirety in a nineteenth-century inventory. Since 1988, the compilation of a descriptive catalogue based on modern scholarship and with a detailed documentation of the material makeup of the manuscripts has been funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. So far, five of the seven planned catalogue volumes have been published: volume 1 with descriptions of Clm 14000-14130 in the year 1995, volume 2 for Clm 14131-14260 in 2006, volume 3 for Clm 14261-14400 in 2011, volume 4 for Clm 14401-14540 (2015) and volume 5 with descriptions of Clm 14541-14690 in 2019. All descriptions of manuscripts contained in these five catalogue volumes are accessible in full text in the online database ‚Manuscripta mediaevalia’. The current project aims at compiling descriptions of the manuscripts Clm 14691-14850, thus completing the sixth volume of the series. All descriptions will be published online in the German manuscripts portal (Handschriftenportal) as well as in a printed catalogue.
