In the 20th and 21st centuries, sport rose to become an important arena of the heroic in modern society. The planned project will focus on describing heroic patterns of representation of sports in French narrative literature from the time at which a so-called littérature sportive took shape in the interwar period to the present. Among other parameters, the project will study the athlete as a hero, sport as a heroic practice, and the sporting venue as a place for heroism as well as the literary implementation of these themes.
