Young Heroes of Post-Heroism: Negotiations of the Heroic in Scandinavian Young-Adult Fiction after 1945 (D11*)
Subject Area
European and American Literary and Cultural Studies
Term
from 2016 to 2020
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 181750155
The project will study how the young-adult fiction of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden treats and problematizes the status of the heroic in Scandinavia¿s post-heroic welfare societies. The goal is to work out how young-adult novels from 1945 to the present position themselves with regard to the heroic and how they give it narrative form. The analysis will concentrate on cultural hybridization through migration, changes in gender roles, and the de-solidarization of society in the course of the crisis of the welfare state.
