Project Details
Development of high-strength stainless steel sheets for spring applications (T02)
Subject Area
Metallurgical, Thermal and Thermomechanical Treatment of Materials
Term
from 2016 to 2019
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 54473466
The aim of the transfer project T2 is to develop high-strength stainless steel sheets of nitrogen-alloyed austenitic CrMnNi steel. The steel development will focus on decreasing the material and production costs compared to conventionally-used spring sheets. The required tensile strength will be achieved by precipitation reactions in the martensite and the transformation-induced plasticity of the retained austenite. Furthermore, due to the presence of tempered martensite in the microstructure, the steels to be developed will have a higher toughness than the conventional steel grade. Finally, the suitability of the developed steel for industrial production will be evaluated.
