Project Details
Modeling and VOF-based multiphysics simulation of irreversible thermodynamic transfer processes at dynamic contact lines (B01)
Subject Area
Mathematics
Term
since 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 265191195
In the project, the understanding of transport processes at dynamic contact lines will be deepened on a fundamental level. In funding period 3, the geometric VOF method (Volume of Fluid) will be applied to wetting phenomena with non-newtonian and viscoelastic fluids, complex substrates and topologically variable fluid interfaces. The VOF method is being further developed with regard to improved curvature approximation and efficiency through automatic differentiation. The initialization of surfaces is extended to interface normals. In order to improve the PLIC-VOF reconstruction (Piecewise-Linear Interface Calculation), algorithms for intersection and volume calculation are included.
