Topological matter refers to materials characterized by a non-trivial topology of their electronic wave function. In this synthesis project, we address three important classes of topological matter: topological insulators, topological superconductors, and Dirac/Weyl semimetals. It consists of two subprojects, (I) synthesis and design of topological materials and their heterostructures using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), and (II) synthesis of new or interesting topological materials in bulk or nano-structured forms. Our major goals are to understand the novel physics related to magnetic topological insulators and Majorana fermions generated in topological superconductors.
