Molecular switches in the spatio-temporal coordination of FGF2 recruitment and membrane translocation (A01)

Subject Area Biochemistry
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 278001972

FGF2 is a cell survival factor involved in tumor-induced angiogenesis. The goal of project A01 is to reveal the molecular mechanisms of the unconventional secretory pathway tumor cells employ to secrete FGF2 into the extracellular space. Building on the results from the first funding period of TRR186, we aim at elucidating the nanoscopic architecture of the FGF2 secretion apparatus in living cells as well as at identifying so far unknown components involved in translocation of FGF2 across plasma membranes. From these studies, we expect to obtain a comprehensive understanding of the molecular events underlying this unusual pathway of protein secretion in mammalian cells.
