Project Details
Inelastic photon scattering in spin-orbit coupled matter (B03)
Subject Area

We use Raman scattering and resonant inelastic x-ray scattering (RIXS) to address the novel rich physics in materials with strong spin-orbit coupling. We focus on three main topics: Cluster Mott insulators, a new class of materials in which electrons are delocalized over a cluster; fingerprints of the Kitaev model in the magnetic excitations of Kitaev materials, such as a fermionic character and dynamic spin-spin correlations that are restricted to nearest neighbors; and cubic j = 1/2 compounds and the role of magneto-elastic coupling.
