Optically driven matter (B05)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 277146847
Optically driving materials into a non-equilibrium state opens the way to obtain a detailed understanding of the interactions between the magnetic, orbital, electronic, and lattice degrees of freedom which determine the physical properties of a material. At the same time, it also provides the means to coherently or incoherently drive systems into novel states of matter. In this project, by utilizing complementary optical time-domain techniques, covering a broad frequency range from terahertz all the way to visible light, we will study optical driven transient states and non-equilibrium dynamics in (i) topological matter; (ii) quantum spin systems; and (iii) spin-orbit coupled two-dimensional materials.
