With state-of-the-art scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy at low temperatures / high magnetic fields, we explore quantum phases in transition metal dichalcogenide layers as well as the consequences of non-trivial topology in superconductors. Moreover, our spectroscopic capabilities for the investigation of these materials are substantially extended by tuning their chemical potential via back gating.
