Thermodynamics of fractionalization in spin-orbit entangled matter, (C03)
Subject Area
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2016
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 277146847
The emergence of fractional quantum numbers is one of the most intriguing concepts of quantum many-body physics and a hallmark of spin-liquid physics. The objective of this project are (i) to elucidate the signatures of fractionalization in the context of spin-orbit entangled materials, (ii) to explore inducing fractionalization and spin-liquid phenomena via out-of-equilibrium protocols, and (iii) to investigate the physics of cluster Mott insulators. In the search for fingerprints of (proximate) spin liquid physics in experiments performed within the CRC, Kitaev materials will play a prominent role in our theoretical explorations and the development of advanced numerical schemes.
