Subject Area
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term
from 2016 to 2024
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 274200144
Project A02 aims to generate quantum-mechanical correlations between spatially separated ultracold atomic ensembles. Our strategy to achieve this is to create the non-classical correlations between atoms in different spin states and transfer them to motional states. Such entangled motional states enable a proof-of-principle operation of a gravimeter with a sensitivity beyond the Standard Quantum Limit. Ultimately, we aim to generate macroscopic, entangled states with metre-scale delocalisations together with project B07, and utilise their extreme sensitivity to probe the gravitational interaction. The project contributes to DQ-mat’s goal of enhancing quantum sensors & metrology for tests of fundamental physics.
