In this research project a model for laser cutting will be developed. The model describes the melt flow which will be investigated for stability in dependence to the parameters of the process. The conditions gained from the stability analysis deliver, as an aim of this research project, a connection between process parameters and the dynamic process state, i. e. in particular parameter domains for a cut with high or low quality. The investigated parameters are the wavelength and intensity distribution of the laser radiation, the material state, the cutting velocity as well as the melt flow driving forces induced by the cutting gas. To understand the influence of the occuring quantities, the model is developed hierarchically and examined in each case for stability.
