In project A04 the following question is investigated: How can the adaptability of structures be optimized by using suitable objective functions? One aspect is the development of inverse form finding methods for the design of structural shapes under specification of desired system properties on the basis of abstract, matrix based quality measures. Another aspect is the investigation of the available design space, taking into account the actuation concepts and the associated adjustments of the system properties. In addition, suitable optimization strategies will be developed in order to address the special features of adaptive shell structures and the related risk of buckling.
