Toponyms in Joshua

Subject Area Roman Catholic Theology
Term since 2016
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 326926736

The project analyzes the toponyms of the biblical book of Joshua with a historical and literal perspective. It is part of the applicant's Joshua commentary in the series Das Alte Testament Deutsch. Particularly the catalogue of toponyms of the land distribution in Josh 16-19 will be treated. This project correlates text-based issues of the literary topography (how are the toponyms integrated in the texts? Or: what is the special meaning of the toponyms within the plot?) with biblical-archaeological problems of the historical topography. This research project attempts to establish a constructive cooperation of exegetical and archaeological studies within the scope of biblical topography.
