Subject Area
Communication Technology and Networks, High-Frequency Technology and Photonic Systems, Signal Processing and Machine Learning for Information Technology
Term
since 2017
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 287022738
For localization with sub-mm resolution in dynamic, harsh and cluttered environments, C09 has enabled multiple THz RetroReflective Tags (RRT) based on multi notch Photonic Crystal (PhC) resonators and corner reflectors with reduced orientation sensitivity during its 1st and 2nd phase. Concept wise, a focus was placed on Luneburg lenses in combination with PhC-based coding particles using different material systems for operation frequencies up to 240 GHz. Here, the 3D printed ceramic based approach has demonstrated wireless readout up to temperatures of 1200°C at 100 GHz. Therefore, the 3rd phase C09 research objectives will be on 1. ceramic technology advancements for monolithic multi-component integration up to 300 GHz, on 2. enabling RRT sensor fusion for temperature and mechanical displacement monitoring via instantaneous and memory-based sensing, as well as on 3. liquid-crystal based Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) research for improved THz localization.
