Modular and incremental Global Model Management II

Subject Area Software Engineering and Programming Languages
Term since 2017
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 336677879

Developing complex systems with a multitude of models requires Global Model Management (GMM) to ensure that the interplay between the models is managed properly. Moreover, today’s development projects usually involve several teams of developers, necessitating adequate version management that allows to temporarily live with inconsistencies arising from parallel development. To address the problem of Global Model Management, we have developed a modular and incremental solution in the first phase of the project. Our approach enables the integration of models from different modeling languages and orchestrates related model operations via a notion of mega models consisting of model operation modules. While model versioning has been studied extensively in the context of individual models, solutions for Global Model Management for models with multiple versions are lacking in current literature. In this continuation of the modular and incremental Global Model Management project (miGMM II), we therefore want to tackle this important need by studying how efficient model operations and Global Model Management can be realized for models and mega models with multiple versions. In addition to developing the required foundations, we plan to particularly focus on the handling of conflicts resulting from parallel development on related modeling artifacts.
