F.A. Mann (1907-1991), who arrived in England in 1933 as German émigré, is generally viewed as as one of the most important lawyers of the 20th century. The present project involves a complete stock-taking of some 13,500 documents of his previously unknown correspondence, preparing the ground for future research based on comparative methodology and historical network research which aims to arrive at a new understanding how Mann continues to have shaped English, German, European and international law. Current research on the transnationalisation of law in particular stands to benefit from an indepth study of the person and work of this wanderer between different legal areas and different legal cultures.
