Final Report Abstract
The results of the experiments that were performed in the frame of this project showed that: a) The Addition of On- and Off responses are not homologous to the pattern ERG. Different processes and mechanisms probably play a role. The ideas of the origins of the pattern ERGs need to be revisited. b) As a result, the On-Off-additions may provide additional and independent parameter for detection, diagnosis and monitoring of glaucoma. c) The cone input to the On- and Off-ERGs show that cone opponent mechanisms play a major role in the generation of the ERG. Textbook knowledge so far did not take this into account and therefore should be revised.
