Analysis of profile and sharpeing processes in double face grinding with planetary kinematics

The characteristic kinematic of the manufacturing process double face grinding with planetary kinematics leads to a profile wear along the grinding tool radius. The shape of the profile depends significantly on the rotational speed of the grinding tools as well as the inner pin ring, which results in a variety of different shapes of the wear profile. Due to the profile wear, the reachable quality of the workpieces decreases, so that a cost and time-consuming conditioning process of the grinding wheels is necessary. Until now, process optimization is based on the knowledge of industrial users.During the first funding period, the influence of various parameters on the profiling and sharpening process was examined and evaluated with regard to their significance. In addition, a process model for the targeted design of the dressing process was created. This means that the dressing processes can be designed depending on the degree of wear, which leads to a reduction in non-productive process time. Furthermore, it could be shown that the knowledge gained can be transferred to other grinding processes. This makes it possible to develop process models that can be used for different grinding processes.Based on the knowledge gained in the first funding period on profiling and sharpening of grinding wheels at the DPMP, these are to be deepened and expanded in the follow-up project. This includes the analysis of the interactions between the grinding wheel specification and dresser specification. In particular, the relationship between the grain size of the dressing tool and the grinding wheel as well as their grain concentration should be examined with regard to their influence on the grinding wheel topography and thus on the grinding behavior and the work result. In addition, the influence of the cleaning process should be analyzed. The main goal of this research project is the identification of the relationships for the formation of the grinding wheel topography during the conditioniing process during double face grinding with planetary kinematics. The results are used to expand the process model from the first funding period. In addition, the knowledge gained on conditioning at the DPMP is analyzed with regard to its transferability to other grinding processes.
