We aim to determine the triple oxygen isotope fractionation factors (d17O, d18O) between calcite and water as function of temperature. A part of the project is the development of a protocol for high-precision measurements of D17O of calcite. The protocol includes acid digestion of calcite and analysis of d17O and d18O of liberated CO2 by means of high-precision gas source mass spectrometry. We will apply the protocol to measure the d17O and d18O fractionation between calcite and water at different temperatures. Within this development, we will also determine the 17O/16O acid fractionation factor. The goal is to introduce a new provenance tool and a new quasi single phase thermometer.
