In a German-Egyptian cooperation, the volcanic, sedimentary, metamorphic and intrusive units of the Gharib Segment in the northern part of the Neoproterozoic Eastern Desert Basement Complex of Egypt will be investigated. By combining volcanic and sedimentary facies analysis, petrology, geochemical and isotope measurements (Sr, Nd, Hf) with radiometric dating techniques (SHRIMP, TIMS, Ar- Ar) we aim to reach a differentiated model of the basin evolution and magmatism of the Pan-African orogeny during the Cryogenian-Ediacaran.
