Project Details
Modification of an arc spray system for production of fine structured, near net-shape wear resistant coatings on complex surfaces (A01)
Subject Area
Materials Engineering

In TP A1, a high kinetic atomization gas flow will be realized by utilizing a powerful compressor (max. volume flow 10 m3/min at 13 bar) as well as flow-optimized laval nozzles (use of venturi jets). This set-up leads to a very fine spray particle formation and able to provide dense, fine-structured layers. With the aim of producing a near net-shape coating deposition, adaptive nozzle configurations are developed, which enable an online control of the spray plume profile. A functional coating can be achieved by local changes of the coating properties, hence allowing a path-related coating of the surface of the component.
