Subject Area Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Term from 2017 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 370491995

Major goals of the project proposal are the investigation of concepts for ultra-low-phase-noise optoelectronic phase-locked loops of which the output frequency shall be contionously tunable over more than an octave and which uses diode-based femtosecond pulse lasers as reference oscillators. Further goals are the investigation of optoelectronic phase detector principles using off-the-shelf components for optical communications and to realize the optoelectronic frequency synthesizer by means of these phase detector concepts using silicon photonics technology thus achieving ultra-compact size and low cost. In addition, for the first time a mathematical model of optoelectronic integer-N and fractional-N phase-locked loops based on femtosecond pulse lasers shall be developed allowing to predict dynamic and static control behaviour, phase noise, stability, and spurious frequency generation.
