GRK 1041:  Molecular Diabetology and Endocrinology in Clinical Medicine

Subject Area Medicine
Basic Research in Biology and Medicine
Term from 2004 to 2013
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 374934

Diabetology and endocrinology are clinical disciplines which integrate basic research and a molecular approach towards aetiology and treatment of common diseases. Clinical knowledge in the fields of diabetology and endocrinology is becoming more and more important as the number of patients with relevant diseases steadily grows. A molecular approach to these problems promises to enlighten the field and to provide an example for other areas of clinical medicine. The Research Training Group aims to take an active role in these developments by fostering a problem-oriented as well as an evidence-based teaching approach.
The Research Training Group is comprised of research groups led by basic and clinical scientists which already have a proven track record of active and fruitful interactions. The Collaborative Research Centres 518 ("Inflammation, Regeneration and Transformation in the Pancreas") and 451 ("Inflammation and Repair in the Cardiovascular System") will provide a stimulating scientific environment for the development of the Research Training Group. The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ulm will also provide crucial support via its Centre for Interdisciplinary Clinical Research.
