The chiral transition at low net baryon-number density will study the nature of the chiral phase transition at low net-baryon density and the role of the axial anomaly using two complementary approaches, lattice QCD and the FRG applied to quark and gluon degrees of freedom. We aim at a comprehensive theoretical understanding of the nature of the QCD transition at zero and low density for small pion masses down to the chiral limit. We will use scaling analyses of the chiral phase transition and will compare lattice-QCD calculations with staggered and domain-wall fermions and FRG studies with improved truncations in the matter sector. We will complement these studies by searching for the critical point in 3-flavor QCD and by studying the heavy-quark region as well as QCD with imaginary chemical potential.
