Black Carbon as Indicator for Human Environment Interactions in the last 190,000 Years (E07* (D06))

Project E7 was able to advance methods of black carbon analyses (form. F3, phase 1) and to apply them to different geo-archaeological archives to reconstruct palaeoenvironmental and human impacts on local fire records (form. D6, phase 2). The aim of E7 will be to relate fire signals to the whole CRC study area and to connect results from geo-archives (with B3) and archaeological sites), e.g., by spatial modelling of fire residue transport distances We expect to find systematic changes in the interactions between fire activity, palaeoclimate and human mobility along the major corridors of human dispersal. A synthesis of natural and anthropogenic fire history between NE-Africa and Central Europe will thus help to contribute to the understanding of the role of fires on Our Way to Europe.
