Development of a load capacity theory of timber panel elements

Subject Area Structural Engineering, Building Informatics and Construction Operation
Applied Mechanics, Statics and Dynamics
Term from 2017 to 2019
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 385052327

The specific objective of the activities in this research period is the development of anextended shear field model in a plastic area for the calculation of planar shear-stressed timber panel elements with partially free edge of the panels. The prerequisites and fundamentals of this development have been developed in the previous research sections. It refers to:the experimental proof of the possible fully plasticized state of the composite of ribs and sheathing boards, the extended shear field model for planar timber panel elements with partially free panel edges for the determination of the elastic limit state, the rod composite model for planar timber panel elements. In the extended shear field model, the continuous ribs are replaced by a link chain with hinges in the area of the sheathing boards. In distinction to the rod composite model, not only the deformations of the sheathing boards but also the rib sections of the link chain are neglected. It can be described as a rigid body model with elastic / plastic composite. In addition to the rod composite model, this model has the validity to provide simple determination equations for the estimation of stresses in the plastic limit state.
