Microstructural mechanisms within the steel matrix - the interplay of dislocation plasticity, phase transformation and mechanical twinning (C09#)

Subject Area Mechanical Properties of Metallic Materials and their Microstructural Origins
Term from 2017 to 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 54473466

The main emphasis of the present project is on the relevant microstructural phenomena which interact with each other in the TWIP/TRIP steel matrix. Our goal is to design a physically-based, computational multiphysics model that is able to match experimental observations of the structure-property relation. To reach this goal, we use a continuum dislocation dynamics model that is coupled to phase field approaches for fully resolved prediction of the formation of mechanical twins, as well as for the martensitic phase transformation.
