The goal of the project is to investigate the formation and decay of baryonic states of possible multi-quark structure beyond minimal 3-quark configurations. Such meson-meson or meson-baryon type structures offer interpretations for recent findings in the (hidden) charm sector, both mesons (the X,Y,Z states) and baryons (the LHCb pentaquark candidates). Similar states may exist in the open or hidden strange sector as well, and are expected at thresholds in the photoproduction of strange mesons. At the particularly interesting threshold regions of kaon-nucleon and kaon*-Sigma/Lambda, photoproduction of K+ and K0 mesons off proton and neutron will be studied using the BGO-OD detector at the ELSA facility of Bonn University. The acceptance of this detector offers access to previously unexplored kinematic regimes.
