The propagation of waves in complex (dusty) plasmas is a well established research field. It provided many essential and important results for the field of strongly coupled systems. So far, the investigations were limited to monodisperse systems. However, with the results on structure and thermodynamics in binary mixtures obtained in previous project, we now for the first time have the chance to explore wave propagation in a strongly coupled binary mixture. In the framework of this project we aim at a systematical study of longitudinal and transverse perturbations. We will use experiments as well as numerical simulations to gain further insight into transmission and reflection at grain size boundaries, the dispersion relation of dust density and dust lattice waves and the existence and propagation of solitary waves in binary mixtures.
