The new instrument will be crucial for the development of the attosecond research program at the Physics Department of the University of Freiburg. The High-Energy Attossecond Source will be composed by:1) a high-energy carrier-envelope-phase (CEP) stabilized laser system2) a hollow-fiber compressor3) an extreme ultraviolet (XUV) beamline (for the generation, characterization, and application of trains and isolated attosecond pulses). The larger cost regards the laser system. With this new equipment, it will be possible to conduct state-of-the-art experiment to investigate the electronic dynamics and non-adiabatic processes occurring in molecules. In particular, the system will be used to investigate charge migration processes driven by electronic correlation in systems such as glycine and caffeine. Taking advantage of the large expertise already available at the University of Freiburg, a new research direction focused on time-resolved investigation of electronic and nuclear dynamics in clusters (also size-selected) will be started. The aforementioned experiments require the generation of trains and isolated attosecond pulses, which will be possible only with the high-energy attosecond source described in this proposal.
