The traditional understanding of university library services focuses primarily on the development and provision of collections but is not sufficient to support data-intensive and tool-based digital working and research forms (e-research) in organizational as well as technical terms. In this regard, the development of new organizational and service models is required in order to contribute to a close collaboration between university libraries and fields of scholarship as well as to improve the participation in knowledge transfer and competence development. As a first step, the proposed project aims to identify the expected spectrum of e-research support as well as the possibilities of collaboration between librarians and researchers in the humanities on the basis of a survey. As a second step, an organizational and service model will be developed in which the requirements for the use and support of e-research technologies in the humanities can be taken up and made available with corresponding service portfolios. In this feasibility study, libraries are understood to function as Scholarly Makerspaces, which enable digital forms of work in research and teaching with appropriate infrastructure and services, including services and tools as e-research technologies.
