God-lists are a characteristic component in the Mesopotamian transmission of knowledge, which is mainly preserved in the form of Sumerian-Akkadian lexical lists. The principal aim of the project is to offer a critical, systematic and quotable edition of all Mesopotamian 'primary' god-lists (including cuneiform commentaries) based on all available sources. In addition, all relevant 'secondary' god-lists, i.e. enumerations of theonyms in various texts of different contents, will be gathered, (re-)edited and adapted for the project. Subsequently, an analytical study focussing on the structure, textual history and intertextual relations between the 'primary' god-lists and 'secondary' god-lists will be conducted. The project will be completed by a general index of the text editions and the analytical volume. Many of the 'primary' god-lists are still unpublished or unedited. Therefore, a full edition of all god-lists is a desideratum not only for Ancient Near Eastern Studies, but also for neigbouring fields. The 'secondary' god-lists have never been collected as a group and have been studied only sporadically in relation to the 'primary' god-lists.
