Following the research hypothesis that fiber-reinforced composites do show a relevant very high cycle fatigue behavior, this project aims to answer several fundamental questions derived from the previous SPP1466. Is there an endurance limit? Do the observed VHCF processes (fully reversed loading, R=-1) also come into effect under repeated loadings (R=0) and can results be transferred? May damage initiation under high-frequency bending be compared/linked to the initiation behavior found in cyclic tension/compression tests? Can VHCF damage initiation be described by the theory presented by Carraro and Quaresimin [11]? Can the damage initiation behavior be improved by means of nano particulates? A comprehensive experimental test program is proposed in the following. Experiments will be complemented by analytical- and numerical simulations.
