Final Report Abstract

In the present project, we systematically investigated the influence of temporal preparation on selective processes within perception. To this end, we conducted two separate experimental series, in which we targeted distinct selection mechanisms: In experimental series A, we focused on the effect of temporal preparation on spatial selection; in experimental series B, we focused on the effect of temporal preparation on dimension-based selection. While the results of experimental series B did not provide further-reaching insights regarding the influence of temporal preparation on dimension-based selection, experimental series A did not only provide clear-cut evidence for a spatial selection benefit due to temporal preparation, but also points towards a nonspecific increase in stimulus salience as an underlying mechanism.
