Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt is committed to establish sustainable open access publishing structures by establishing and implementing a DFG publication fund. The project aims at allowing researchers, in particular from Socio-economic Sciences and Humanities, to gain experience in high-quality open access publishing, which in turn will increase the reputa-tion of this publishing method. The publication fund will also enable researchers at the Uni-versity to contribute to expanding the range of high-quality research findings and outcomes that are freely and easily accessible. On the basis of resp. by using the publication fund, transparent internal information and administrative structures will be established in order to promote that comprehensive, though tailored high-quality information on demand is provided. This objective will contribute to enforce key elements of the ongoing transformation process in the scientific journal market. Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt will initially use the DFG research funding in support of this process, driven and in accordance with its open ac-cess policy, and is committed to sustain it in the long term in a duly demand-driven manner. In the context of this two-years third-party funded project, the University is covenant to allo-cate 20 % of the publication budget foreseen from own resources. The real costs, hardly to be estimated so far, are related to and depend on publication behaviour to be observed, the APC cost structure, data from other universities with a similar range of disciplines, online journals available, and the respective researchers’ interest expressed.
