Non-invasive imaging of REV-scale experiments to understand how fluid-solid reactions affect flow and transport in porous media (C05)

Subject Area Hydrogeology, Hydrology, Limnology, Urban Water Management, Water Chemistry, Integrated Water Resources Management
Applied Mechanics, Statics and Dynamics
Mechanics
Term since 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 327154368

The aim of this project is to experimentally investigate how reactions at the fluid-solid interface affect flow, transport and deformation in porous media. For this, we will use REV-scale experiments combined with non-invasive imaging techniques (X-ray computed tomography, time-lapse imaging with digital cameras) to investigate how salt precipitation during evaporation of saline water from porous media affects evaporation, sample deformation, as well as desiccation cracking.
