Project Details
Regulation of myelinated axon structure by communication between axons and oligodendrocytes (A14*)
Subject Area
Developmental Neurobiology
Term
from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 118803580
Myelination by oligodendrocytes critically regulates structure, function, and survival of axons in the central nervous system through mechanisms that are not well understood. Here, we will use in vivo live cell imaging and genetic manipulations in zebrafish as model organism to elucidate the mechanisms by which axons and surrounding oligodendrocytes communicate to form, remodel and maintain myelinated axons and how this is controlled by cell intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms.
