Carmina Priapea: Edition and Literary-Critical Commentary

The aim of this project is to provide a new critical edition of the so-called Carmina Priapea, an anonymously transmitted poetry book that consists of 80 epigrams and that most likely dates from the late first or early second century CE. The edition will be based on a thorough examination of the extant manuscripts as well as of the numerous conjectures that have been proposed from the 15th to the 21st century. The edition will be followed by a decidedly literary-critical commentary: at the outset, I shall provide a series of seven essays on questions and topics that concern the book in its entirety. After that, the individual poems will be commented on with a strong focus on their literary complexity.
