Dynamic mapping of vessels in soft tissue in transmission and reflection measurement, as a hybrid method from ultra-wideband and ultrasound signals for the non-invasive determination of the blood pressure.

Subject Area Medical Physics, Biomedical Technology
Term from 2018 to 2023
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 397662162

The main objective of the project is the development of a continuous, noninvasive procedure to measure the arterial blood pressure, based on transmission and reflection of electromagnetic ultra-wide-band-signals. The presented scientific approach is a combination with ultrasound as a hybrid system. Therefore, synergetic evaluable signals are generated based on two different physical methods – improving the feature recognition and extraction. Whether the combination can also be considered as an internal reference is part of the scientific issue. Concurrent it is included to improve the data acquisition at hypotonic circulatory states. A key objective is the development of an appropriate measurement procedure as well as the design of a model to evaluate the results in the lab. Based on the results from simulation studies, this approach aims to detect the pressure states in a specific vessel over the whole clinical relevant range. The final statement towards a principle application is generated in a concluding validation based on a standardized, statistically verified procedure.
