Project Details
Control of epithelial cell extrusion (A08*)
Subject Area
Cell Biology
Term
from 2018 to 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 89986987
The new project investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying epithelial cell extrusion using the Drosophila wing imaginal disc as an elegant genetically tractable model system. Extrusion of cells from epithelia occurs in response to apoptosis, cell crowding, epithelial-mesenchymal transitions or oncogenic signaling. In A8 (N) it will be investigated which cell surface signals mediate recognition of aberrantly specified cells and which cellular machineries execute and coordinate cell extrusion from the epithelium, both in the Drosophila wing disc and in mammalian models of epithelia.
