Ultrafast spin dynamics in heterogeneous magnetic systems (A02)
Subject Area
Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Term
since 2018
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 328545488
We propose to provide an element-specific view on ultrafast magnetization dynamics in heterogeneous magnetic systems using resonant absorption and reflection spectroscopy in the extreme ultraviolet and soft X-ray spectral range. The fundamental goal is to find efficient pathways of light-driven spin switching using tailored excitations in tailored sample systems. Our focus will be on excitation schemes that exploit the helicity of the pump light, as well as the interaction with hot, spin-polarized electron pulses, in order to control the magnetization of ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic and paramagnetic materials.
