Search for CP violation in neutrino oscillations with the experiment T2K-II

Subject Area Nuclear and Elementary Particle Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Relativity, Fields
Term since 2018
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 397763730

Since several years the phenomenon of neutrino oscillations is intensively studied. It describes the change of different flavors of neutrinos, which are electrical neutral particles that participate only in weak interactions. One leading experiment here is the T2K experiment. It found for the first time indications for a difference between the oscillations of neutrinos and anti-neutrinos. This difference, which in particle physics is called CP violation, could be an explanation for the disappearance of anti-matter after the big bang. The proposed experiment T2K-II will improve the current measurements and will try to find evidence for CP violation in the leptonic sector, where neutrinos belong to.
